Upgrade Center

The new Upgrade Center interface will also provide information about upgrade readiness, predicted upgrade time and appliance connectivity status.

There are multiple ways to navigate to the Upgrade Center tab. You can navigate through Appliance dashboard or Customer dashboard. In the Upgrade Center tab, there are multiple filters that can be used to select desired set of appliances.

On the Customer dashboard, you can search for specific appliance using the Search bar located under the filters. If required, you also export the list by clicking

Export next to the Search bar.

After applying filters, list of appliances appears on the screen. You can scan the list and find out upgrade readiness status of the appliances.

Status messages and definitions are as follows:

The targeted software version for the appliance.

Upgrade Readiness

Up to date

The appliance is running on the latest supported version. No further action is required.

 

Ready for upgrade

The appliance is ready for upgrading to the selected target version.

 

Not ready for upgrade

Upgrade to the selected version is not possible as one or more pre-upgrade checks have failed. Please check the recommendations and get the appliance to Ready for Upgrade state.

 

Upgrade In Progress

The appliance upgrade to x version is in progress.

 

Unavailable

The appliance upgrade readiness status is unavailable.

 

Unsupported

The appliance is not running on the supported version.

Predicted Upgrade Time

Time in minutes

Approximate time required for upgrade process.

Appliance Connectivity Status

ACTIVE

Appliance is connected with System Health Insights upgrade service.

 

INACTIVE

Appliance has not connected to System Health Insights upgrade service for the last 1 hour.

 

UNAVAILABLE

Appliance has never connected to System Health Insights upgrade service.

Last Upgrade Details

SUBMITTED

The upgrade request has been submitted to System Health Insights upgrade service.

 

INITIATED

The upgrade request has been received on the appliance.

 

IN PROGRESS

Appliance upgrade is in progress.

 

FAILED

The upgrade has failed on the appliance. You can check the details on Activity Monitor.

 

TIMEOUT

The upgrade has timed out, as no upgrade events have been received from appliance for last 1 hour.

 

COMPLETE

The upgrade was completed successfully on the appliance.

 

COMMIT PENDING

The upgrade was completed successfully. You need to manually commit the upgrade on Flex appliance.

Prerequisites for upgrading Flex appliances:

  • Appliance should be a standalone appliance.

  • Appliance should be on version 3.2 and above.

  • Appliance Connectivity Toolkit add-on is installed and successfully connecting with System Health Insights Cloud showing status as ACTIVE.

  • Appliance has called home in last 24 hours and has sent the upgrade readiness status as Ready for Upgrade.

  • Appliance is registered.

  • The logged in user is an Administrator on the team the appliance is registered with.

  • The user has valid VEMS entitlement to download the upgrade package on the appliance.

  • Upgrade Permission should be enabled. It is disable by default.

  • The Appliance is not fully or partially involved in any upgrade activity currently.

Prerequisites for upgrading NetBackup Appliances:

  • Appliance should be a standalone appliance.

  • Appliance should be on version 4.x and above.

  • Health Maintenance add-on is installed on the appliance.

  • Appliance Connectivity Toolkit add-on is installed and successfully connecting with System Health Insights Cloud showing status as ACTIVE.

  • Appliance has called home in last 24 hours and has sent the upgrade readiness status as Ready for Upgrade.

  • Appliance is registered.

  • The logged in user is an Administrator on the team the appliance is registered with.

  • The user has at least View or Support VEMS entitlement on the appliance.

  • Upgrade Permission should be enabled. It is disable by default.

  • The Appliance is not fully or partially involved in any upgrade activity currently.

Note:

HA and Scale out appliances are not supported currently.

Make sure that all pre-requisites are met and initiate upgrade process by following the steps given below.

  1. Click the kebab menu in the right-hand corner and click Manage Upgrade. If you are initiating upgrade from the Appliance dashboard, Manage Upgrade option will appear on the page. Click Manage Upgrade.
  2. One OTP will be sent to your registered email ID for additional authentication. Enter that OTP in the pop-up and click Verify and Proceed.
  3. Upgrade Schedule Options pop-up will appear. Select the relevant options and click Confirm.

    This pop-up will have different options for NetBackup and Flex Appliances. Select appropriate option.

  4. A confirmation page will appear. Click Submit.
  5. The upgrade process will be initiated.
  6. You will be redirected to either to the Customer or Appliance dashboard and following message will appear on the page:

    Upgrade process has been initiated for 1 appliance(s) successfully. Go to Activity Monitor page for tracking the progress of upgrade.
