How to provide copies of SQL Server databases for sandboxes in Velocity
Follow these steps to provide users with copies of Microsoft SQL Server databases for their sandboxes.
Ensure the following:
The Velocity Client is installed on the host computer that is running SQL Server
The Velocity Client is registered with the Velocity Storage Server.
See Configuring the Velocity Client for Windows.
Table: How to provide copies of SQL Server databases for sandboxes
Step | Task | More Information |
---|---|---|
Step 1 | Add a SQL Server database for which you want to provide copies to users. After you add the SQL Server database, it becomes a database source in Velocity. Then, each time that the database source is ingested, a copy of the database is available to users for their sandboxes. | |
Step 2 | Ingest a database source from the Velocity Cloud Console. Note: Using a NetBackup policy to ingest a SQL Server database is not supported. | |
Step 3 | Give users access to the database copies that are provided each time that the database source is ingested. To give users access, create a role that has access to the database source, and then assign users to that role. Users can access the database copies of the database source to which they have privileges. Or, you can assign the database source to an existing role. Then, any users that are assigned to that role inherit permission to access the database copies. | See Changing the database sources that are assigned to a role. |
Step 4 | Let users know that they can create a sandbox to access a database copy. |
