About sandboxes
A sandbox provides users with an isolated environment in which to test and experiment with a copy of production data without affecting the working data. When the data in a sandbox becomes stale, the user can create another sandbox from more recent data.
Any user with sufficient privileges can create as many sandboxes as needed. Users create sandboxes for their individual use. Users cannot view or manage the sandboxes of other users in Velocity.
After a Velocity administrator or a database administrator assigns a role to a user that gives them privileges to a database source, users can do the following actions:
Create a sandbox.
View all of their sandboxes and the sandbox details, such as the host server, the path, and the database name.
When you create a sandbox, the option Automatically start the database is selected by default. In some situations, you may want to access a database without starting it. For example, if you need to perform a manual operation or recover data. If you uncheck the option to automatically start the database, you can access the database on the host server to manipulate it in any way that is required for your situation. You can choose to start the database manually at any time after the sandbox is created.
See Starting an Oracle database instance manually.
