Ingesting an Oracle database with NetBackup CoPilot
If your environment includes Veritas NetBackup CoPilot, you can use it to ingest an Oracle database into Velocity. The Velocity or database administrator coordinates with the NetBackup administrator to enable copies of a database to be made available to users.
Note:
Before you begin this process, ensure that your NetBackup and Velocity environments meet the requirements for using NetBackup to ingest an Oracle database to Velocity. The process will not work if your environments are not configured correctly.
See How to set up NetBackup CoPilot to ingest Oracle databases into Velocity.

Step | Instructions | Details |
---|---|---|
Step 1 | In Velocity, add a database source. This operation is usually performed by the Velocity administrator or database administrator. | When you are prompted to choose a method to ingest the database source on the Choose Method panel, select the option. On the Add a Database Source panel, select the option. After the database source is added, click Details dialog, note the NFS export path. The NetBackup administrator must have this information to complete the ingest process. next to the new database source. On the |
Step 2 | In NetBackup, ensure that the database instance is registered. This operation is usually performed by the NetBackup administrator. For information about registering a database instance, see the NetBackup for Oracle Administrator's Guide. | Only registered database instances can be used in an Oracle policy. |
Step 3 | In NetBackup, create two storage lifecycle policies. This operation is usually performed by the NetBackup administrator. For information about storage lifecycle policies, see the NetBackup Copilot Configuration Guide. | The following storage lifecycle policies are required:

Step 5 | In NetBackup, run a manual backup for the policy that you configured. This operation is usually performed by the NetBackup administrator. For information about manual backups, see the NetBackup for Oracle Administrator's Guide. | This process may take several hours. When the manual backup is completed, the newly ingested database source appears on the Database Sources dialog in Velocity. This database source can then be used to create sandboxes. |
Step 6 | In Velocity, verify that the database source was ingested. This operation is usually performed by the Velocity administrator or database administrator. | From the Velocity Cloud Console, in the left pane, select Veritas NetBackup to indicate that NetBackup was used to ingest that database source. The button will not be available for the database sources that were ingested with NetBackup. All additional ingests must be initiated in NetBackup. . On the row for the database source that was ingested with NetBackup, the button should be replaced with |
