Updating the Information Map Agent
Veritas regularly releases updates to the Information Map Agent, which contain new features, fixes to known issues, and enhancements to existing functionality. Versions of the Agent older than 90 days from publication are automatically disabled, and Veritas will not support them.
There are three ways to keep the Information Map Agent up-to-date.
You can configure your system to automatically update any installed Agents to the latest version, update directly from Information Map, or download the Agent installer and update the individual Agent servers.
Note:
If you are updating to the Agent version 3.0.0.5, it is recommended that you provision a separate machine to install the on-premises agent.
By configuring Agents to update automatically, you can ensure that any enabled Agent is updated within hours of a new version being available. Information Map provides a framework for the management of your agents and manual intervention is required only to troubleshoot issues.
To enable or disable automatic updates
- On the vertical navigation panel in the Information Map application, expand the Administration section and click Agents.
- Select the Agents for which you want to enable or disable automatic updates.
- Click Edit.
On the Edit panel, modify the value, and click Save to apply the change.
If you select multiple Agents, only the common editable properties are shown on the Edit panel.
- Click Yes on the confirmation dialog. If the update method is changed for multiple Agents, the confirmation dialog displays the progress of the status change and errors, if any.
Click Retry to initiate the status change for the failed Agents.
You can update out-of-date agents to the latest available version from the Agents page. This provides you a framework to silently and remotely update any Agent from a single location and manage when to update the agents.
To remotely update Agents
- On the vertical navigation panel in the Information Map application, expand the Administration section and click Agents.
- Select the Agents for that you want to update.
- Click Update Agent(s).
Agents that are already up to date or configured for automatic updates cannot be updated by this method.
- The selected Agent(s) will be configured for automatic updates during this process. Clear the check box to opt out of automatic updates and click Yes on the confirmation dialog.
If multiple Agents are triggered for immediate update, the confirmation dialog displays the progress of the status change and errors, if any. Click Retry to initiate the status change for the failed Agents.
Note:
For both methods above, the only option is to update to the latest available version of the Agent. As part of the update process, metadata collection and upload are suspended. If required, the Agent server is also automatically restarted.
After the update, all services are restarted, and the schedules for collection or upload of metadata are resumed.
You can also update Agents manually, by logging onto individual servers directly and running the installation package.
Note:
This method lets you update to any supported version of the Agent if you do not want to directly install the latest available version.
