Managing Agents
You must configure an Information Map Agent after it is registered. The
> page lets you view and edit the schedule and properties for Agents. You can also manage the updates to the Agent from the this page.See Updating the Information Map Agent.
Agents are the services that execute tasks (such as metadata collection from NetBackup) and uploads the results to the Information Map.
The Agents page displays the following information:
The location of the Information Map Agent.
The status of the heartbeat from the Agent. The Agent periodically sends a signal to the Information Fabric technology platform. The status indicates the availability of the Agent and notifies you if the application is not receiving a signal from it.
A green icon indicates that Information Fabric is receiving a heartbeat from the Agent as expected. An amber icon indicates that there is no heartbeat from the Agent for over 10 minutes, and a red icon indicates if it is over 60 minutes since the last heartbeat.
The current version of the Agent and whether it needs updating. The color-coded icons indicate the following:
Green - Up to date The installed version is the latest.
Amber - Update available - The Agent is running a supported version, but a newer version is available.
Red - Update required - The Agent is not running a supported version and must be updated. All metadata collection and uploads are disabled until a supported version of the Agent is installed.
The update method for the Agent.
When an automatic update of an Agent fails three times consecutively, the update method is changed to Manual to allow you the time to rectify the reason for failure. The change is identified in the Update Method column by the notification - Manual (Automatic Update Failed)
The panel on the right displays details for the Information Map Agent, such as:
When the last heartbeat was received from the Agent.
The current version of the Agent and whether it is up-to-date, new version is available or required.
If the Agent is configured for manual updates and is not up-to-date, you can update the Agent from the Agents page.
When an update to the Agent was last attempted, and whether the update was successful. If an Agent update fails, the details panel also provides more information about the failure.
The upload schedule.
The known IP addresses for the Agent server.
You can edit the schedule on which the Information Map Agent uploads metadata to Information Fabric to minimize the effect on other users of this connection. The schedule is always defined in terms of the local time at the Agent's location. Note that you must schedule the upload of results from the Agent depending on the storage space on the Agent server and on the network bandwidth. The default schedule is 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. which should be outside the normal hours for backup. Once defined, you may not need to edit the Agent's schedule very often.
To edit the Agent schedule
- In the Upload schedule widget, click a box to indicate the day and time for the metadata collection. The time zone of the server is indicated on the panel.
- Click Save.
