Changing the retention categories of items
Depending on how your administrator has set up Enterprise Vault Search, you may be able to change the retention categories of the items in your archives.
Note that certain Enterprise Vault features can override any changes that you make. So, you may change an item's retention category and then find that Enterprise Vault has replaced your chosen retention category with another one. In other cases, you may not be able to change the retention categories at all. If in doubt, consult your administrator for guidance.
To change the retention category of items
- Select the items in the results pane.
To select multiple adjacent items, select the first item, hold Shift, and select the last item. To select nonadjacent items, hold Ctrl and select the items.
- Right-click and select Change Retention Category.

- Select a retention category from the drop-down list.
Enterprise Vault prompts you to confirm that you want to change the retention category.
- Click Yes.
