Finding search terms in a selected item

After you run a search, you can use hit highlighting navigation to find instances of search terms in the selected item. The hit highlighting navigation bar in the reading pane shows the number of hits in parentheses after the search terms. You can move through all the highlighted hits or select one of the search terms from the drop-down list.

The hit highlighting navigation button on the reading pane toolbar hides or shows the hit highlighting navigation bar.

Hit highlighting navigation button

The hit highlighting navigation bar appears only if Enable hit highlighting navigation is selected in the Preferences dialog box.

To find instances of search terms in an item

  1. Run a search.

The results pane shows the search results.

  2. Click an item in the results pane.

The reading pane shows a preview of the item.

  3. Click the Next or Previous button in the hit highlighting navigation bar to move to the next or previous highlighted search term. As you move through the hits, the current hit is highlighted in orange.

If you have more than one search term, you can select a search term from the drop-down list and then move through the highlighted hits. To highlight search terms in an email attachment, you must first select the attachment in the reading pane header and preview it.

  4. Click Close to hide the hit highlighting navigation toolbar.
