Duplicate Host Analysis
This report is available to the Super User or System Administrator by default and can be made available to other admins and users by enabling special access permissions. You can use this report to detect duplicate hosts in your environment. You can use the CSV export of this report as an input to the CLI-based utility to merge the duplicate hosts in your environment.
You can find this report at: Reports > System Administration > Duplicate Host Analysis
Since the report processes information from already collected jobs while processing, running it for specific host groups can help you to generate the report more quickly. This recommendation is applicable for an environment with large - a few tens of thousands of hosts. The scope selector fields are described in the table below.
Table: Duplicate Host Analysis Scope Selector
Field name | Description |
---|---|
Host Group | Allows you to select the host groups, backup servers, or hosts for the report scope. Your selection narrows down the scope and helps find duplicates more efficiently by targeting specific host groups or host name. |
Find Duplicates Using:
| You can choose between Host Name (default) and Display Name. Both searches are case-sensitive.
|
Host Type for the Duplicate Host
|
|
Surviving host Selection Criteria
| Allows you to specify the criteria to select the surviving host among the duplicates when performing a host merge.
|
Cascade into sub-groups | The scope selector default is to cascade to all child sub-groups when generating the report. If you prefer to report ONLY on the host group you selected, then uncheck Cascade into sub-groups. |
Filter by Common Attributes | Select this checkbox to have the report scope display attributes using "AND" logic. By selecting this feature, the report will display those results with the intersection of the selected criteria. If this checkbox is not selected, the report will display attributes using "OR" logic. For example, if you select attribute values, Campbell, Engineering, Cost Center 1 and select Filter by Common Attributes, the report will display only the results that contain all 3 attribute values. If you do not select Filter by Common Attributes, the report will display all results with attributes Campbell, Engineering, or Cost Center 1. |
Apply Attributes to Backup Servers | Select this checkbox to apply the attributes only to the backup servers, instead of hosts. |
This report displays one row each for each suspected duplicate pair. If multiple duplicate hosts are detected, the report displays one row for each duplicate pair. For example, if host A has three potential duplicates, the report displays three rows - one for each duplicate. The report columns are described below.
Table: Duplicate Host Analysis
Column name | Description |
---|---|
Sequence Number | Consecutive number for each row. This is a system-defined number. Do not change this number as it can be utilized while manipulating the exported CSV for Duplicate Host Merge process. Also, it allows an easy return to the original sort order. |
Surviving Host | The host which will be retained after merge is successful between the row of the duplicate hosts. |
Main Host Internal ID | The ID internal to NetBackup IT Analytics for the surviving host as per report scope selection. |
Duplicate Host Count | Total number of duplicate hosts found for the Main host as per report scope selection. For example, number 3 indicates that this row plus next two rows have duplicate hosts with Main host as the surviving host. |
Duplicate Host Internal ID | Internal ID for the duplicate host as per report scope selection. |
Main Host Display Name | Main host's display/external name. This is the name which is displayed on various reports of the NetBackup IT Analytics Portal. You can modify it during collection, unlike internal/host name which is used in host matching and is not updated once a record is created in NetBackup IT Analytics database. |
Duplicate Host Display Name | Duplicate host's display/external name. |
Main Host Name | Main host's internal name. This is the name with which and entry was created for the first time NetBackup IT Analytics database. This name cannot be updated as it is used in host name matching. |
