Backup Server Performance Dashboard
This dashboard is designed to help NetBackup IT Analytics administrators to identify and analyze the appliances or backup servers experiencing slowness and bad performance. It consists of eight portlets that collect data from the backup probes and various host resources. Each portlet is a report in itself and is described below.
This report is located here:Backup Manager > Management Reports > Backup Server Performance Dashboard
This report shows the average throughput calculated per minute and aggregated for an hour for a given host. The throughput is averaged based on how the jobs are grouped. The report is designed to evaluate a single host; however, if you choose to run it for multiple hosts, it displays a summarized chart of clients from all the hosts. Currently, the report displays the chart of 20 clients causing the highest throughput, so that administrators can focus on specific clients to troubleshoot those responsible for the high throughput.
The Job Status Summary report shows a bar chart that aggregates jobs that succeeded, failed, or produced warning messages. This high-level summary provides drill down access to the Job Summary report, where you'll find specific status messages and scheduling information.
This report displays the chart based on values derived from hosts running only on UNIX operating systems.
This chart displays historical load averages derived from the uptime command. The uptime command displays the current time, how long the system is running, the number of active logged in users, and the host load averages in the past 1, 5, and 15 minutes.
Host load average is the average of the processes in either pre-run or uninterruptible state. A process in pre-run state either already using the CPU or waiting to use it. However, a process in uninterruptible state is awaiting the use of CPU, which means it is waiting for an I/O access, such as waiting for disk. The averages displayed in the report are taken over the three time intervals mentioned before, but are not normalized for the number of CPUs in a system.
The report displays a chart of the average CPU usage of the backup host over the time duration specified for the report. In addition, it also plots an additional line indicating the maximum CPU usage for the specified time interval.
Even though the report is designed to evaluate the CPU utilization of a single host, you may view a chart for multiple hosts. In that case, the chart will display values based on the average utilization of all the hosts.
The report displays a chart of the average memory consumption of the backup host over the time duration specified for the report. In addition, it also plots an additional line indicating the total memory usage for the specified time interval. Although the report is designed to evaluate the memory consumption of a single host, you may view a chart for multiple hosts. In that case, the chart will display values based on the average memory consumption of all the hosts.
The report displays the swap in and swap out of memory per minute for each host within the duration specified while generating the report. This report is a component of the Backup Server Performance Dashboard which helps administrators evaluate the reasons for slowness or bad performance in the backup servers or appliances.
This report summarizes the reads and writes of all the disks connected to the host. The values are calculated in Kilobits/second and displayed on the chart for the time duration specified while generating the report. You can evaluate the disk utilization using this report and resolve slowness of applications running on the host.
This report displays a chart of summarized values of the packets sent and received over the host network. The chart is a plot of summarized values obtained from all the NICs in the host network. This chart can help you minimize performance issues arising from network congestions.

If the exported report or dashboard contains a generic placeholder chart image, the chart export feature on your system has been disabled. See the Remove "PhantomJS" from NetBackup IT Analytics Portal tech note for further details.
