Data Domain File Compression Detail
Explore your data center using customizable report templates or by using parts of your IT infrastructure as entry points. Use Search to find reports, templates and dashboards across the portal.
Use the Reports tab to examine the catalog of templates, dashboards and reports - organized by products along with user-created, and system folders. This report is located here:
View Data Domain file pre- and post-compression values. This information can be instrumental in determining efficient storage strategies and identifying storage that can be reclaimed, thereby reducing archive storage expenses. This data can be used to identify clients with inefficient de-duplication ratios, highlighting where de-deduplication is not an effective approach for certain backed-up files. For example, some hosts may be running database applications that are constantly producing unique bits of data. These hosts can consume much of the expensive Data Domain storage. Data Domain collection now can identify the largest offenders, which can then be moved to less expensive storage to avoid paying premium rates for de-duplication.
See Data Domain File Compression Summary.
Configure EMC Data Domain collection to capture image-level compression rates. Aggregated global and local compression rates for all backup images can be collected for all active Data Domain Server MTrees connected (via DDBOOST) to Primary Servers. These Primary Servers must have an active Data Collector that has successfully completed an initial data collection.
These values are relevant as of the last successful data collection cycle.
Table: Data Domain File Compression Detail
Column name | Description |
---|---|
System |
Name of the Data Domain appliance. Click to view the Data Domain System Details. |
Client |
Displayed for NetBackup. Backup client name. If backup source is a known host, host name is a link to Host Details. Other backup sources are displayed with link to Object Details. |
Source |
Backup source name. If backup source is a known host, host name is a link to Host Details. Other backup sources are displayed with link to Object Details. |
Source Type |
Defines the source type such as resource pool, datastore or a folder. |
Server |
Name of the host to display in Portal reports. Click the link to display the Host Details or Object Details. |
Backup ID |
The ID that identifies a specific job. |
Date |
The date and time that a backup job wrote to the Data Domain appliance. |
Storage Unit/Volume |
Displayed for NetBackup. Name of the Storage Unit/Volume used in the backup. |
Job Finished Date |
The date and time this job finished. Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Backup Exec, IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM), Commvault Simpana, HP Data Protector, EMC Avamar, Generic Backup: The date and time this job finished. Veritas NetBackup: This is expressed in the time zone of the primary server. IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM): If the dates are missing the century, 2000 is added to the date. |
Policy Name |
Name of the policy used in the backup. |
Original Size |
Amount of logical capacity associated with the backup. |
Global Compressed |
Deduplication ratio: (raw_bytes / pre_local_compression_size). |
Global Deduplication % |
Percentage of Global compression (100 - (Global Compressed/Original Size)*100). |
Local Compressed |
Local compression algorithm: (pre_local_compression_size / post_local_compression_size). |
Local Compression % |
Percentage of Local compression (100 - (Local Compressed/Original Size)*100) |
Metadata |
System overhead metadata. |
Bytes to Storage Ratio |
Bytes to Storage Ratio: bytes/storage_used (local_compression + metadata). |
Backup Product |
Name of the backup product. |
Backup ID |
Uniquely identifies the backup job (or similar). For NetBackup, it is the concatenation of the client host name and a long integer representing the starting time of the job, this uniquely identifies the job. For Avamar, it is the client ID (CID) that identifies the client, but not the job. |
Path Name |
Path name. |
Last Collected from Data Domain |
Date and time the Data Domain file level compression data was last updated in the Portal database. |
