About parallel upgrade and supported upgrade paths
In a parallel upgrade, all the nodes in the cluster are upgraded and restarted simultaneously and the services downtime is part of the overall upgrade duration.
The following upgrade paths are supported for a parallel upgrade:
Direct upgrade: Direct upgrade from version 3.1, 3.0, and 3.0.0.1 to version 3.2
Multi-step upgrade from version 3.0 to 3.2: Upgrade from 3.0 to 3.0.0.1 and then to 3.1 and 3.2
or
Upgrade from 3.0 to 3.1 and then to 3.2
Multi-step upgrade from version 3.0.0.1 to 3.2: Upgrade from 3.0.0.1 to 3.1 and then to 3.2
Note:
You must install VRTSnbfsapp_EEB_ET4104073-3.0.0.0-1.x86_64.rpm
on version 3.0 and 3.0.0.1 to support parallel upgrade.
If the upgrade fails on a node, all the nodes are automatically rolled back to the previous version. The detailed logs for parallel upgrade are located in the /log/upgrade/upgrade_3.2.log
file on the node where the upgrade was started. The parallel upgrade is a two-phase process. In phase A, the infrastructure packages are upgraded. The nodes are restarted simultaneously and the cluster services are not available. In phase B, the NetBackup services and containers are stopped and NetBackup and MSDP packages are upgraded on all the nodes. The cluster services are not available during phase B.
