Considerations for running a parallel scan

Data Insight automatically enables parallel scanning on a collector node if the collector node specification is 16 core CPU and 32 GB RAM or higher.Data Insight automatically shifts to parallel scanning, which results in faster scan of shares.

Following considerations apply when parallel scanning is enabled by Data Insight:

  • As a precautionary measure to avoid excessive load on the filers, Data Insight runs a maximum of four multi-threaded scans in parallel on a collector regardless of the value configured on the Advanced Settings page.

  • It is recommended that the DataInsightComm service should be stopped only after the parallel scans are completed. If not, the parallel scan automatically starts a fresh scan on the next initialization of the service.

Limitations

The following limitations apply for the parallel scanner.

  • Parallel scanning is not supported for NFS shares, SharePoint Online, Microsoft OneDrive, and Amazon S3 data sources.

  • Support for scanning circular or symbolic links is not available.

  • Support for scanning junction-based paths is not available.
