Storage Optimization Dashboard
This dashboard can be reviewed regularly to maintain efficient storage use.
Each section on the chart is a report and you can click the charts to get a drilldown view for additional details of particular infrastructure categories, such as:
Undiscovered LUNs
Powered-off VMs
Over-provisioned hosts
A trend report shows usage over time by storage category. The reports displayed on the dashboard are briefly described below:
This is a chart of potentially reclaimable and non-reclaimable storage. Click the reclaimable chart sector to view the Storage Optimization Analysis chart, which provides a more detailed breakdown of scenarios that may offer reclamation opportunities. The non-reclaimable sector provides a drilldown view of the Array Utilization Summary, which lists capacity utilization details.
Displays a chart of infrastructure categories and use cases that may offer opportunities for storage optimization. Click a chart sector to view additional details for reclamation possibilities such as undiscovered LUNs, over-provisioned hosts, or powered-off VMs.
This is a chart of potentially reclaimable and non-reclaimable storage, by tiers. Click a chart sector to view additional details in a similar chart, Storage Optimization Analysis by Tier, which renders data for a specific tier, by infrastructure storage-optimization categories, such as undiscovered LUNs or over-provisioned hosts.
Provides a view of storage optimization categories over time to identify storage consumption in areas that undermine storage optimization goals. Storage optimization cannot be treated as a once-and-done event. Data growth, combined with dynamic IT configurations, easily undermine the best attempts to minimize waste. Processes that regularly monitor historical data can forestall inefficient storage usage.
Note:
As a best practice, use a monthly schedule to capture point-in-time data that can be compared month-to-month in this storage optimization trending report.
