Configuring a policy that includes the cluster node names (legacy SQL Server policies)
When you use legacy SQL Server policies to back up a SQL Server cluster, NetBackup requires an additional backup policy. The purpose of this policy is to include the physical node names of the cluster in the NetBackup configuration. This way NetBackup has permission to connect with and back up those nodes. You do not need to configure any settings on the Schedules or Backup Selections tabs. To create the primary policy to protect a SQL Server cluster or the preferred replica of an availability group, see the following:
See Configuring backups of clustered SQL Server instances (legacy SQL Server policies).
See About protecting the preferred replica in a SQL Server availability group (legacy backup policies).
To configure a policy that includes the cluster node names
- Create a new backup policy.
- On the Attributes tab, select any policy type.
You do not need to configure a storage unit or any other settings.
- On the Clients tab, add each physical node name in the cluster.
If you have an AG replica that is hosted on a failover cluster instance (FCI), include the physical node names for the FCI.
- Click OK to save the policy.
