Changes introduced in Appliance Management Server 2.0

The following changes are introduced in this release.

  • You can now configure AMS as a container instead of on a NetBackup appliance. The container can be deployed on any Linux OS.

See Configuring AMS as a container.

  • The Appliance Management Console now supports Flex appliances. To manage Flex appliances, the AMS must be configured as a container. AMS 2.0 running on a NetBackup or NetBackup virtual appliance cannot support Flex appliances. Note that some management tasks are not available for Flex appliances in this release.

  • When you install a maintenance release, you no longer need to manually run the Appliance Upgrade Readiness Analyzer from the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu. Instead, add the readiness analyzer to the repository before you install the maintenance release.

See Installing maintenance release packages on NetBackup appliances.

  • The Appliance Management Console now supports performing hardware tests on NetBackup appliances.

See Running hardware tests on NetBackup appliances.

  • You can now install firmware updates on NetBackup appliances.

See Updating firmware on NetBackup appliances.

  • A new capacity report is available on the Reports page of the Appliance Management Console. The capacity report shows a breakdown of available storage capacity for each appliance. The report does not currently support Flex appliances.

See Viewing the capacity utilization of multiple appliances.

  • A new EEB report is also available on the Reports page. The EEB report shows a breakdown of all of the EEBs that are installed on your appliances, either by appliance or by EEB.

See Managing EEBs and other add-ons.

  • A label column has been added to the Home page. You can use the label column to group your appliances with a name or a description.

  • The appliance details page has a new tab to display information about the EEBs or other add-ons that are installed on the appliance.

  • An issue occurs on Appliance Management Agent (AMA) version 1.4.2 that causes NetBackup Appliance upgrades from version 4.1 to a future release to hang. That issue is resolved in this release. Make sure that you upgrade your agent appliances to AMA version 2.0 before you attempt to upgrade them from version 4.1.
