Known limitations of the NetBackup Virtual Appliance 5.1.1 release

The NetBackup Virtual Appliance contains similar software as NetBackup Appliance. However, some of the features that are supported on the physical appliances are not currently supported on the virtual appliance.

The following list describes the known limitations for the NetBackup Virtual Appliance 5.1.1 release:

  • The appliance software is currently available in English only.

  • The NetBackup Virtual Appliance Web Console and the Veritas Remote Management interface (IPMI) are not supported. Use the NetBackup Virtual Appliance Shell Menu or the NetBackup Administration Console to log on and manage the appliance.

  • Factory reset is not available on a NetBackup Virtual Appliance combined primary and media server. You cannot return your appliance to the factory state. If you encounter any severe issues, contact Veritas Support for assistance. You may need to redeploy the appliance if the issue cannot be resolved.

  • Tape devices and libraries are not supported.

  • The following network features are not available:

    • Fibre Channel

    • Fibre Transport

    • SAN Client

    • VLAN

    • IPsec

    • iSCSI

  • The Copilot feature is only available on the NetBackup Virtual Appliance media server for data centers (DC). Standard shares are supported. Optimized shares are not supported.

  • The self-test feature is limited to the NetBackup Virtual Appliance software.

  • Appliance monitoring for AutoSupport is limited to the following:

    • Partition information

    • MSDP statistics

    • NetBackup Virtual Appliance software version

    • NetBackup version

    • Appliance model

    • Appliance configuration

    Note:

    NetBackup Virtual Appliance is not currently supported for registration.

  • The Symantec Data Center Security (SDCS) managed mode is not currently available. SDCS operates in unmanaged mode on the appliance.
