About SmartIO read caching for applications running on VxFS file systems
Storage Foundation High Availability Solutions supports read caching on solid-state drives (SSDs) for applications running on VxFS file systems. In this scenario, application reads are satisfied from the cache whenever possible. As the application accesses the file system, the file system loads data from the disk into the cache. Application writes go to the disk in the usual way. With each write, the file system synchronizes the cache to ensure that applications never see stale data. If a cache device fails, a file that is cached in read mode is completely present on the disk. Therefore, the cache failure does not affect the application I/Os for the file and the application I/Os continue without interruption.
