About SharePoint server monitoring
You can use Data Insight to monitor unstructured data residing on servers running any of the following:
Microsoft SharePoint™ 2019
Microsoft SharePoint™ 2016
Microsoft SharePoint™ 2013
Data Insight monitors accesses to the data in the following SharePoint library types:
Document library - Stores documents in the .pdf, .doc, .xls, .txt and other such file extensions.
Picture library - Stores images.
Before you use Data Insight to scan a SharePoint server, you must complete the following tasks:
Ensure that you know the URLs of the target SharePoint web applications.
Ensure that .NET Framework 4.5 is installed on the Collector node that is responsible for the discovering site collections and collecting audit logs.
Configure a policy for each web application.
Install and configure the Data Insight web service on the SharePoint server.
Enable auditing on the SharePoint server. You can enable auditing from the Management Console when you add web applications, or directly from the SharePoint server.
Ensure that you select indexing mechanism. By default, persist mode is selected but you can switch to WAL mode by clicking Enable WAL mode in the top ribbon.
Data Insight can provide a better indexing mechanism by supporting index databases in SQLite WAL (Write-Ahead-Logging) mode. If you enable WAL mode, you can reduce disk space by 50% and improve performance of indexing process considerably. WAL mode is not enabled by default.
To enable WAL mode, select filer from filer's list and click Enable WAL mode option on the Filer page. You can also disable WAL mode by selecting Disable WAL mode on the same page.
Note:
State of the WAL mode will be cascaded to all the shares of that filer, if it is not explicitly set on the other share.
