Adding asset infrastructure for VMware virtual machines
The following tables describe the asset infrastructure to be added to Veritas Resiliency Platform for discovery and management of VMware virtual machines. They include information on adding infrastructure used for array-based replication for disaster recovery.
The tables also show the recommended sequence for adding the assets so that the discovery completes most quickly.
If you are using array-based replication, refer to the appropriate table depending on whether you are using EMC SRDF, Hitachi TrueCopy, or NetApp SnapMirror replication.
Replication appliances are covered separately.
See Adding RecoverPoint appliance for replication.
Table: Adding asset infrastructure for VMware virtual machines (Resiliency Platform Data Mover)
Task | Details | Infrastructure category in console |
---|---|---|
Configure a discovery host for the VMware vCenter Server | Add a host to act as the discovery host for the vCenter Server. | Virtualization |
Add the VMware vCenter Server to Resiliency Platform | Virtualization |
Table: Adding asset infrastructure for VMware virtual machines (EMC SRDF replication and Hitachi TrueCopy replication)
Task | Details | Infrastructure category in console |
---|---|---|
Configure a discovery host for the storage array to be used for replication (optional) | Configure a discovery host with the vendor-specific array management tools and connect it to the enclosure See About the discovery host for enclosures. | not applicable |
Add the discovery host to Resiliency Platform | See Managing host assets. | Managed Host |
If you have not Added the discovery host, then add the storage array to Resiliency Platform | Storage | |
Add the VMware vCenter Server to Resiliency Platform | If you added a storage array for replication, for discovery to proceed most quickly, ensure that the enclosure discovery is complete before you add the vCenter Server. Optionally, you can add a separate host to act as the discovery host for the vCenter Server. | Virtualization |
Table: Adding asset infrastructure for VMware virtual machines (NetApp SnapMirror replication)
Task | Details | Infrastructure category in console |
---|---|---|
Configure a discovery host for the VMware vCenter Server | Add a host to act as the discovery host for the vCenter Server. | Virtualization |
Add the VMware vCenter Server to Resiliency Platform | Virtualization | |
For NetApp SnapMirror replication: Add the storage array or NetApp cluster to Resiliency Platform | For discovery to proceed most quickly, ensure that the vCenter Server discovery is complete before you add the storage array. When you enter the array information, you must specify the IMS as the discovery host. | Storage |
