Problem

Deduplication Storage offline  after Backup Exec server was renamed

Error Message

The Dedupe shows offline and State shows as below -

Offline; Unable to authenticate with the OpenStorage device. Ensure that the logon account that is required to access the device has the correct credentials.

Cause

When a Server name is changed, Backup Exec runs some scripts in the background that updates the new name of the server in the configuration and catalog files. In this scenario, some configuration files of Deduplication Storage do not get updated due to the protection that is applied via the Lockdown features.

Solution

Note: Disable lockdown settings before renaming the backup exec server to avoid getting into the situation of Deduplication Storage offline. Re-enable lockdown settings after server rename.

Workaround

Click on Backup Exec icon ( Top left side corner ) -> Configuration and Settings -> Backup Exec Settings -> Network and Security -> Disable the disk storage Lockdown setting. Then, rename the Backup Exec Server and reboot it. The Deduplication Storage should be online. Re-enable the disk storage Lockdown setting.

OR

Disable and Delete the Dedupe Storage. Then, reimport it.
Note: Do not select the checkbox "Delete the backup sets from the Administration console views after the storage device is successfully deleted" while deleting the storage.
