The current time goes back to 17 hours earlier after the recovery by Simplified Disaster Recovery (SDR)
Problem
The current time on the recovered OS goes back to 17 hours earlier in Japan (UTC+9, Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo time zone) after the recovery by Simplified Disaster Recovery (SDR) on a HPE server or a similar hardware with HPE server.
Error Message
N/A
Cause
This issue happens when the following all conditions are met.
1. The hardware has the time zone setting.
2. The hardware clock is set to UTC (See Figure 1.)
3. Booting from SDR media that was not created with UTC-8. For example UTC+9 Osaka, Sapporo, Tokyo time zone.
Figure 1
The SDR runs on a Windows PE based OS. Windows PE ignores the time zone that is set on a HPE server or a similar hardware with HPE server, and then the SDR runs as UTC-8 time zone. It is because UTC-8 is the default setting for the media. As the results, the SDR changes the time that is set on the hardware, and the current time goes back to 17 hours earlier in Japan.
Solution
A hotfix is now available for this issue in the current version of the product mentioned in this article. Refer to the Hotfix link under Related Articles to obtain the hotfix needed to resolve the issue.
Backup Exec 20.5 Patch Update (100043577)
Workaround:
Perform either 1 or 2.
- Manually set the correct time on the hardware (RBSU) prior to the first boot after the recovery by SDR.
- Set up Network Time Protocol (NTP) in iLO to manage time services. If time is managed via NTP, there is no need to use the OS or UEFI settings, but rather let the NTP server be the trusted single source of time.
