Setting retention periods for non-modifiable checkpoints
If you do not specify a retention period, a WORM-enabled checkpoint can be deleted at any time.
To create a non-modifiable storage checkpoint with a retention period
- Set a retention period at the time of the WORM-enabled checkpoint creation.
Sample command:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/fsckptadm -w -t 2022-05-01 create clone5 /mnt1
- Verify that the retention period is set for the WORM-enabled checkpoint.
Sample command and output:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/fsckptadm list /mnt1
/mnt1 clone5: ctime = Thu 24 Jun 2021 04:04:39 PM IST mtime = Thu 24 Jun 2021 04:04:39 PM IST Retention period = Sun 01 May 2022 12:00:00 AM IST flags = largefiles, worm
To create a non-modifiable storage checkpoint with the same retention period for multiple file systems
- Alternatively, you can set a common retention period at the time of WORM-enabled checkpoint creation on multiple filesystems simultaneously.
Sample command:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/fsckptadm -w -t 2022-05-01 createall clone6 /mnt2 /mnt3
- Verify that the same retention period is set for all the WORM-enabled checkpoints.

# /opt/VRTS/bin/fsckptadm list /mnt2 /mnt3

To set a retention period for an existing WORM-enabled checkpoint
- Specify the date until which an existing WORM-enabled checkpoint should be retained.
Sample command and output:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/fsckptadm -v setretention 2023-02-08 clone5 /mnt1

To extend the retention period of an existing WORM-enabled checkpoint
- Specify a date beyond the one that is currently assigned to a WORM-enabled checkpoint to extend its retention period.
Sample command and output:
# /opt/VRTS/bin/fsckptadm -v setretention 2050-02-08 clone5 /mnt1

Note:
The maximum supported retention timestamp on a WORM-enabled checkpoint is 2038-01-19. However, if MAXTS is enabled on the file system, the maximum supported timestamp is 2106-02-07 (UINT_MAX).
