Connecting four D Series storage shelves to an appliance

Note:

The cables in the illustrations in the following sections are shown in different colors for demonstration purposes only. The actual cables are black.

Note:

The orientation of the blue tabs on the ends of the SAS-3 cables is important. In the appliance, the blue tabs on each SAS-3 connector must face down. In the storage shelves, blue tabs of the SAS-3 connectors inserted must face up.

To connect four storage shelves to an appliance

  1. Connect a SAS-3 cable to the left port in the appliance RAID PCIe card.
  2. Connect the other end of the SAS-3 cable to port 1 in the top I/O module of the first storage shelf.
  3. Connect SAS-3 cables between the remaining four storage shelves.
  4. Connect a SAS-3 connector to port 1 in the bottom of the I/O module in the fourth shelf.
  5. Connect the other end of the cable to the right port in the appliance RAID PCIe card.
  6. Connect a SAS-3 cable to port 2 in the bottom I/O module of the fourth shelf. Connect the other end of the cable to port 1 in the bottom I/O module of the third shelf.
  7. Connect port 2 in the bottom I/O module of the third shelf to port 1 in the bottom I/O module in the second shelf.
  8. Connect port 2 in the bottom I/O module of the second shelf to port 1 in the bottom I/O module in the first shelf.

Next, connect network and power cables. Turn on the storage shelves and the appliance per the required sequence. Verify that all units function correctly.
