About MSDP changes in 8.1.1
Veritas introduced a new encryption algorithm for the Media Server Deduplication Pool (MSDP) in NetBackup 8.0. The Advanced Encryption Standard 256 bits, CTR (AES) replaces the existing Blowfish encryption algorithm. With NetBackup 8.1, Veritas begins use of the SHA-2 fingerprint algorithm as well. With the introduction of the new fingerprint algorithm, NetBackup 8.1 includes a rolling data conversion. This background process converts all existing data containers to the AES encryption and the SHA-2 fingerprint algorithm. More information about the MSDP changes is available. Refer to the Veritas NetBackup Deduplication Guide.
See MSDP upgrade considerations for NetBackup 8.1.
See About MSDP rolling data conversion.
With NetBackup 8.1.1, Veritas introduces MSDP Encryption using Key Management Service (KMS). KMS uses a customer key to encrypt a data segment. With the introduction of KMS, upgrades from pre-8.0 versions of NetBackup are not supported. The supported upgrade paths are:
NetBackup 8.0 to 8.1.1
NetBackup 8.1 to 8.1.1
See the Veritas NetBackup Deduplication Guide for more information.
