NetBackup Virtual Appliance 3.1 new features, enhancements, and changes

The following list describes the new features, enhancements, and changes in the NetBackup Virtual Appliance 3.1 release:

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating system upgrades to the version 7.3.

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the NetBackup Virtual Appliance supports storage management operations including adding and removing storage disks, resizing storage partitions, scanning storage devices, and monitoring storage management tasks.

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the NetBackup Virtual Appliance deployment supports the VMware vSphere 6.5 and the VMware OVF Tool.

  • When you deploy the NetBackup Virtual Appliance 3.1 with the combined master and media server role, you can do the following:

    • Specify an initial storage capacity of 0.5T, 1T or 2T

    • Configure IPv6 network

  • When you deploy the NetBackup Virtual Appliance 3.1, you can choose whether to write the host name and IP address of the appliance to the HOSTS file. This is to ensure the host name lookup check for initial configuration is successful when DNS is not available.

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the NetBackup Virtual Appliance supports the following features:

    • Log Forwarding

    • Checkpoint creation and rollback

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the NetBackup Virtual Appliance supports the media server role. The NetBackup Virtual Appliance with the media server role includes the following additional features compared to combined master and media server role:

    • Factory reset

    • Copilot

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the NetBackup Virtual Appliance supports two new AutoSupport plugins to monitor the status of the virtual memory and CPUs. See the Main > Monitor > Hardware command for more information.

  • Starting with software version 3.1, the command UpgradeStatus shows an upgrade progress bar, upgrade logs, Appliance model, upgrade path, and upgrade time.
