Recover SecureFS checkpoints
The secure file system (SecureFS) feature helps protect your data against ransomware attacks and accidental deletions through the use of snapshots and non-modifiable checkpoints. In case of a data loss event, you can use these storage checkpoints to perform data recovery using the SecureFS snapshots. In this release, the SecureFS snapshot recovery process is enhanced to be more efficient and user-friendly. Termed as "Single Click Recovery" the process focuses on ease of use and improving the recovery time objective (RTO) in SecureFS environments.
To view and validate the immutable checkpoints for an application, ensure that you select the host and the volume on which the application is installed or configured. To perform this task, your user group must be assigned the Admin role on the host or the Server perspective. The permission on the host may be explicitly assigned or inherited from a parent Organization.
If the application is not configured with InfoScale Cluster Server (VCS), you must stop the application manually before you initiate the recovery process.
If VCS manages the application, VIOM freezes the VCS application service group and pauses the SecureFS configuration for the application, until the recovery is completed.
Ensure that you have allocated sufficient free disk space on the main file system used by the application. For example, if the checkpoint size is 500 GB, you must have at least 500 GB or more free space available on the file system where the checkpoint is being restored.
To recover SecureFS checkpoints
- In the Management Server console, go to the Server perspective and expand Manage in the left pane.
- Expand Organization or Uncategorized Hosts to locate and select the host.
- Expand the host and Volumes to locate the volume for which you have configured immutable checkpoints.
- Click the Snapshots tab in the right pane.
- Right-click on a checkpoint and select Recover.
- On the Recover checkpoint panel, verify that the desired checkpoint is selected and then click Next to begin the recovery.
- The Recover checkpoint - Result pane displays the checkpoint recovery status. VIOM runs the InfoScale commands to recover the checkpoint. You may see a message similar to the following:
After the recovery process is started successfully, click OK.
- Click the Recovery History tab to view the progress of the checkpoint recovery. VIOM displays the status in real time.
- After the recovery is completed successfully, you can perform any additional steps that are required to start the application and make it functional again.
