About the client console for Storage Foundation
A client console (user interface), Veritas Enterprise Administrator (VEA) is available to perform the operations that are required to configure and manage storage. With the product installation, VEA is installed by default.
VEA GUI can be accessed through either the Start menu or the Computer Management window of the server or the client computer you use. Once you access the VEA GUI, you then need to connect to one or more servers that you want SFW to manage.
Note:
You cannot install the older version of VEA (client-only) to manage storage using the latest version of the product.
This section describes how to use these two methods to access VEA and to connect to a server.
Note:
To access and perform operations within SFW, you must have administrator rights on the computer you want to connect to. Not having administrator rights only lets you view information in SFW. If User Access Control (UAC) is enabled, run the program or commands in the "Run as administrator" mode even if the logged-on user belongs to the local administrators group. Alternatively, log on as an Administrator (default administrator account) to perform the tasks.
Note:
If User Access Control (UAC) is enabled on Windows Server operating systems, then you cannot log on to VEA GUI with an account that is not a member of the Administrators group, such as a guest user. This happens because such user does not have the "Write" permission for the "Veritas" folder in the installation directory (typically, C:\Program Files\Veritas). As a workaround, an OS administrator user can set Write permission for the guest user using the Security tab of the Veritas
folder's properties.
