Analyzer tool usage recommendations

It is the request to run this tool no more than 24 hours before the upgrade installation.

To minimize the impact in your environment from the analyzer tool changes, Veritas recommends that you prepare to upgrade the appliance immediately after you have run the analyzer tool.

If the changes described for this tool are likely to have a negative impact on continued operations, Veritas recommends that you do not use the analyzer tool at this time. Make appropriate plans to run the analyzer tool only when it is convenient for you to upgrade the appliance.

Analyzer tool deployment instructions

1.     Download the tool and upload to appliance using one of following methods:

• Download the package from this page through the web browser to a computer, then upload this tool to appliance using NetBackup Appliance Web Console:
  • Open a browser and login to the appliance as an administrator using the NetBackup Appliance Web Console.
  • Select Manage>Software Update, click on the button Upload and upload the package to the appliance, waiting for file uploaded successfully.
• Download the package from this page through the web browser to a computer, then upload this tool to appliance using a CIFS or NFS share:
  • Open an SSH session and log on to the appliance as an administrator using the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu.
  • Open an NFS or a CIFS share, enter the following command:
    • Manage > Software > Share Open
  •  Map or mount the appliance share directory as follows:
    • Windows CIFS share: \\<appliance-name>\incoming_patches
    • UNIX NFS share:
      • mkdir -p /mount/<appliance-name>
      • mount <appliance-name>:/inst/patch/incoming/mount/<appliance-name>
  • Copy the analyzer rpm packageto the mounted share.
  • Close the NFS or CIFS share after the uploading: Manage>Software>Share Close
• Download the package to appliance directly if this appliance can access Internet:
  • Open an SSH session and log on to the appliance as an administrator using the NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu.
  • Search the latest tool, enter the command: Manage>Software>List AvailableAURA
  • Download the package, enter the command: Manage>Software>Download 

2.      Install the tool on appliance:

• To verify that analyzer tool package was uploaded successfully on the appliance, use the following command: Manage > Software > List Downloaded
• To launch and run the analyzer tool, use the following command: Manage > Software > Install, at the beginning of the installation, there is a latest toolkit version searching from Internet (if available) and local installation directory, it can automatic download and run the latest analyzer tool after getting the confirmation. 

Note:

•          You can find two rpm packages that can be downloaded from this page: prefix with  SYMC_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer and prefix with VRTS_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer*. Download and install the package prefix with SYMC_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyzer* when the appliance current version is lower than 3.3.0.1; use the package prefix with VRTS_NBAPP_update_ReadinessAnalyze when the appliance current version is 3.3.0.1 or higher.
•           For high availability (HA) setups, you only need to download the package to one node. After completing the package downloading on the first node, follow above installation operations to make the package available on the other node.

Analyzer tool running and monitoring

Monitor the tool running progress after the installation, give the required inputs when asking, after the analysis passed, the appliance is ready for the upgrade.

If the analysis failed, follow the suggestions and address all reported issues, then run this tool again on this appliance. More detail suggestions can be found from Veritas support website through the unique Message Identification (UMI) code searching. The code appears as: V-409-777-*, to be reported on the screen or within the log file.
