About the factory default port mode configuration
All Fibre Channel (FC) HBA ports on the NetBackup 52xx and 53xx appliances default to the standard initiator mode. To use the appliance as a target for hosting backup images from SAN clients or from another appliance, you must configure the ports for the target mode.
Starting with appliance release 5.1.1, FC target port configuration is unified and self adaptive to the purpose of port usage. Each unified target port contains three luns which allows the port to utilize both FTMS and MSDP applications. You no longer need to create separate FTMS and MSDP target ports. For appliances with 16GB FC HBA cards, it can also improve the FC port utilization.
The NetBackup appliance provides a predefined target port configuration for the following features:
Enable Fibre Transport target mode (FTMS and MSDP) on the media server
Enable Fibre Transport for replication to other NetBackup Appliances
When you enable the FC features for the first time, the predefined port configuration is applied. However, if you have customized the port configuration used by a feature before you enable the feature, the customized port configuration is used instead.
The default port configuration may not use all of the available FC HBA cards.
If you have changed the port configuration, the customized port configuration takes effect. However, you can restore the default port configuration.
Note:
In the default configuration, Port 2 on each card is set as a target port. Port 1 stays in the standard initiator mode, but is not active until you enable Fibre Transport on the appliance as a source.
All Fibre Channel (FC) HBA ports on the 5350 appliance default to the standard initiator mode.
You can change the default configuration as follows:
NetBackup Appliance Shell Menu
Configure any available HBA Fibre Channel (FC) ports (1-8) for Target or Initiator modes.
NetBackup Appliance Web Console
Configure Fibre Transport target (FTMS) for NetBackup SANClient, Fibre Transport target (MSDP) for optimized duplication and Auto Image Replication over Fibre Channel (FC), or Fibre Transport initiator for duplication or replication to other NetBackup appliances.
