Creating an automatic warm backup
You can automate the creation of a warm backup of a non-VSS-aware database by running a command file in the backup job. Run this command file before data capture to stop (quiesce) the database momentarily and commit all transaction logs to the hard disk. Arctera System Recovery instantaneously snaps a virtual volume recovery point.
Run a second command file in the backup job to restart the database while the recovery point is created from the virtual volume recovery point.
Because the virtual volume snapshot takes only a few seconds to create, the database is in the recovery point state momentarily. As a result, there is a minimal number of log files created.
