Restoring a missing or corrupted /etc/fstab file
The following messages may be displayed at boot time if the /etc/fstab file is missing or corrupted:
WARNING: Couldn't open /etc/fstab: No such file or direcctory WARNING: bad format on line # of /etc/fstab
The /etc/fstab file is missing or its contents have become corrupted. This prevents some or all file systems from being mounted successfully.
To restore a missing or corrupted /etc/fstab file
- Log in under maintenance mode.
- Remount the root file system in read-write mode (an ext3 type root file system is assumed in this example; modify as appropriate):
# mount -t ext3 -o remount,rw /dev/vx/dsk/rootvol /
- Restore the /etc/fstab file from a recent backup, or correct its contents by editing the file.
- Reboot the system.
