How to exclude specific SharePoint locations from being backed up or stubbed in Alta SaaS Protection
Description
There might be times when it is required to exclude specific SharePoint sites, or sub-sites, from getting backed up or stubbed. There are two options for doing this.
- Location Name
- Specific Location
Location Name
In the Administration Portal, there is an option in the Connector configuration called Locations to exclude. Any folder that matches the entered text name will be excluded, along with all the sub folders. Wildcards (* and ?) are allowed and the matching process is not case-sensitive. To view this setting, do the following:
- Login to the Administration Portal
- Go to Administration -> Connectors
- Edit an existing SharePoint, or Teams Groups Site Collections Connector.
- Go to Policy configuration.
- Under the Custom backup policy, or Stubbing Policy sections, go to Locations to exclude.
Based on the screenshot above, any instance of the location Test will be excluded from the backup policy. The following site locations would all get excluded during backup runs, as well as their sub folders:
- https://demo.sharepoint.com/sites/Lab2/Documents/Test
- https://demo.sharepoint.com/sites/Test/
Note: If the following message is shown in the Administration Portal under the Policy Configuration of the Connector, then only Technical Support can add the excluded location due to the Connector being in a shaded configuration. Please open a case with Technical Support and provide the name of the location to exclude.
Specific Location
This option will only exclude exact matching folders based on path (e.g., https://demo.sharepoint.com/sites/Test/Documents/ExcludedFolder). If the goal is to exclude only a specific SharePoint site, or sub-site, then this should be used.
At this time, this setting is not available in the Administration Portal. Please open a case with Technical Support and provide the details below, so the full path can be properly excluded in the Connector Service:
- Obtain the LocationID from the Content section of the Admin Portal by selecting the location and then the Details pane (e.g., i button at the top right).
- Provide the following information to Support:
- Connector Name:
- Full SharePoint URL to exclude: (https://....)
- Location ID:
