Solution

Prerequisite: Make sure your system time is in sync with internet time and is in the correct time zone.

Backup Exec License that supports protecting Microsoft 365 user data. Review the installed licenses or licensing guides.

Step By Step guide to install and review Backup Exec licenses
 

Step 1: Ensure the " Microsoft 365 " feature is enabled(checked)  in the Backup Exec installation and Licensing settings.

Step 2: .Select the ‘Add Microsoft 365 Tenant’ option as shown below.

Step 3: Backup Exec currently supports Azure Global and Azure China. Select the appropriate region as per your tenant.

 

Step 4:  Backup Exec uses Microsoft’s identity platform and OAuth device authorization grant flow to get access of M365 tenant. This is a Microsoft-recommended secure authentication mechanism, and in this flow, Backup Exec software components do not receive or store any credentials i.e., username and password at all.

Follow the steps mentioned in the screenshot below to Logon to Microsoft 365 Tenant.

Note: if device code (otp) is not displayed in Backup Exec; kindly contact Microsoft support to fix this issue.

 

Step 5: Enter the Device code displayed in Backup Exec for Microsoft Validation in the Microsoft Portal 

Step 6: click Next  for the  successful authentication of the tenant 

 

Step 7: After the device code authentication is done, M365 tenant will be added in Backup & Restore window.
