Description

Veritas Alta SaaS Protection maintains access control lists (ACLs) on all items and folders as described in the following article:   Understanding ACL Synchronization in Veritas Alta SaaS Protection.

In this article, we'll look specifically at ACL sync related to search.

Overview

Veritas Alta SaaS Protections search binds ACLs in the index, ensuring users can only search data they are authorized to see while providing the ability to run fast eDiscovery searches scoped by users and groups. Veritas Alta SaaS Protections search security includes an innovative combination of pre and post trimming coupled with an advanced inheritance-aware ACL design. This innovation ensures end-user and eDiscovery queries execute efficiently and it minimizes the need to re-index due to ACL changes.

Veritas Alta SaaS Protection efficiently handles changes to ACLs and permissions inheritance in the source environment from which ACLs are synced. However, it is still possible for security updates in the index to be pending when a search occurs. Thus, at query time Veritas Alta SaaS Protection provides very fast and accurate pre-trimmed results, but in case there are indexed ACLs out of date due to pending updates Veritas Alta SaaS Protection performs an additional post trimming security check against master ACL records before results are returned to the user. This ensures users never receive content to which they no longer have access, even if the pre-trimmed security in the index is out of date.
