Description

This article provides instruction on configuring permissions specifically for Discovery functionality within the Veritas Alta SaaS Protection Admin Portal.

Step 1 -- Navigate to Users & Roles

Click the ' Administration' tab and then click ' Users & Roles'.

Step 2 -- Add the 'Discovery App' Permission

There are two methods to do this:
  1. Directly on a user or group, or
  2. On a role with user(s) or group(s) added as members to the role.

On a User or Group

Click the ' Users/Groups' tab, find the user or group, and click to edit their permissions. This will display the ' Manage Principal' window. Next, click the ' Permissions' tab and enable the ' Discovery App' permission. This will require the user to have the ' Admin Portal' permission. If the user should be able to create new cases, also enable the ' Create Cases' permission under the 'Discovery App' permission.

On a Role

Click the ' Roles' tab, find the role, and click to edit the role's permissions. This will display the ' Manage Role' window. Next, click the ' Permissions' tab and enable the ' Discovery App' permission.
This will require the role to have the ' Admin Portal' permission. If the members of this role should be able to create new cases, also enable the ' Create Cases' permission under the 'eDiscovery App' permission.

Step 3 -- Configure Securable

Object Permissions

For Discovery, a securable object is a case. Any user with Discovery permission can be configured with additional permissions on cases. This way, it is possible to control who can see what cases, and what users are able to do within a case.

To configure case-level permissions, click the ' Securable Object Permissions' tab within either the ' Manage Principal' or ' Manage Role' windows. It will display a list of all cases in the Veritas Alta SaaS Protection tenant. Click to expand a particular case, and check on/off the desired permissions. Then click ' OK' to save the changes.

Case-level permissions control the following:

Read
Determines if the user has read access to the particular case. This is simply the ability to see that the case exists in the eDiscovery app, and be able to see its configuration details.
Modify
Determines if the user can modify the particular case. This includes the ability to add search results to the case.
Read Case Items
This permission allows a user to read items in the given case. Currently this will be required to export items for the case.
Export Utility
This permission permits a user to run the export utility in 'Case' mode. The user still requires access to the items to be exported (granted via organic permissions, 'Access All Items', or 'Read Case Items').
