Problem

When Max Jobs and Max IO Streams settings are too high, system resources may be come exhausted on NetBackup Media Servers.  This commonly results in high memory utilization.

To optimize performance Veritas recommends the values be set relative to the network performance of the host.

Setting - Max Jobs - Storage Unit

The Max Jobs setting can be changed from within the NetBackup Admin Console.

This value applies to the Storage Unit for each Media Server.

Setting - Max IO Streams - Disk Pool

The Max IO Streams setting can be changed from within the NetBackup Admin Console.

This value applies to the Disk Pool configured on the Media Server.

Advanced Disk: The Disk Pool may contain multiple volumes. The 'Maximum I/O Streams' value is multiplied by the number of volumes.

MSDP: The Disk Pool is considered a single volume. The 'Maximum I/O Streams' value is set for the entire disk pool.
