DLO: Troubleshooting PST backup issues

Problem

PST file backup fails on client machine.

Error Message

"MAPI Initialization failed"

"VSS Initialization failed"

Cause

• MAPI issues - MAPI Initialization failed.
• Bitness mismatch of DLO agent and Outlook.
• VSS snapshot creation failure on client machine.

Solution

Solution 1: MAPI Initialization failed

Change the PST backup method to VSS. Profile Properties --> Options --> Mail Options --> Enable VSS backup of Outlook PST files.

Solution 2: Bitness mismatch of DLO agent and Outlook.

Check biteness of Outlook installed on the client machine and verify if the DLO agent bitness matches with outlook bitness.

For 32 bit Outlook install 32 bit DLO Agent and for 64 bit Outlook install 64 bit DLO Agent.

Solution 3: VSS snapshot creation failure on client machine.

Check Windows event viewer for any VSS related errors for snapshot creation failure or VSS initialization failures. Resolve VSS errors reported in Windows event viewer and re-run backup job.
