Pre-requirement

Before you launch the NetBackup Administration Console to configure a catalog backup policy for a NetBackup Appliance, you must first mount the target NFS storage device to the appliance. Perform the following steps to mount the NFS storage device and to verify that it is mounted correctly.

1.       Log into the appliance shell menu and navigate to the Manage > MountPoints view.

2.       Run the following command to mount the NFS storage device to the appliance: Mount <RemotePath>  <MountPoint>  <NFS/NFSv4>

3.       Run the List command to verify that the NFS storage device is mounted correctly.

The following shows an example of the expected output when performing the above steps:

Catalog Backup Steps

Follow the steps below to use the Policy Configuration Wizard in the NetBackup Administration Console to configure a catalog backup on an appliance.

  1. Set a passphrase to encrypt the disaster recovery packages:

    • In the NetBackup Administration Console, expand Security Management > Global Security Settings.

    • In the Details pane, click the Disaster Recovery tab.

    • Enter the same passphrase in the Passphrase and Confirm Passphrase fields.

    • Click Save.

  2. Configure a catalog backup in the Policy configuration Wizard:

    • In the NetBackup Administration Console, expand NetBackup Management and click on Configure the Catalog Backup to launch the NetBackup Catalog Backup Wizard.

    • In the wizard, check Create a new catalog backup policy, and click Next

    • Specify the policy name and select the backup type.

    • Choose the frequency and retention schedule.

    • On the Catalog Disaster Recovery File panel, browse and select the new mount point created just now, where each disaster recovery image file can be saved on. The image file contains the disaster recovery information. Enter the logon and password information with the default user admin and its associated password.

    • Normally the image file is saved to a network share or a removable device by specifying an NFS share in the path field. For example: /mnt/remote/example, which is a NFS share point mounted on the appliance.

    • To ensure that this path is writable, make sure that the following items on the NFS server are set as follows:

    1. The permission value of the shared folder on the NFS server is set as 777.  You may change the permission value by chmod command on the NFS server.

    2. The read/write (rw) flag is applied to the shared folder in the NFS service configuration file (/etc/exports). For example： /local/nfs/example     10.200.0.0/16(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

    • You must also record this location so that the catalog can be recovered, if necessary.

    • Enter one or more email addresses to receive disaster recovery information, then finish the backup policy configuration.

  3. Manually run the catalog backup policy in the NetBackup Administration Console. A disaster recovery (DR) file and a drpkg will be generated at /admin and also emailed to recipients if email is configured.
