S3 Bucket for Glacier storage cannot be created when using Amazon S3 Glacier service console

Problem

S3 bucket for Glacier storage cannot be created when using Amazon S3 Glacier service console. (Figure 1)

Cause

There are very similar service names in AWS which are S3 and S3 Glacier. (Figure 2)

The following table shows the difference between S3 service and S3 Glacier service.

Backup Exec supports buckets with Glacier Storage Class in S3 service. S3 Glacier Vault is not supported.

Solution

1. Create a bucket in Amazon S3 service console first. Go to https://console.aws.amazon.com/s3/

2. Configure Backup Exec Cloud Storage using Backup Exec Admin Console.

3. Select required Storage Class in Storage Tire field after selecting Amazon in Cloud storage field.
