Problem
Cloud Throttling was configured but NetBackup does not seem to honor the settings, and backups continue to run at full utilization.
Error Message
No error message, throttling settings are not honored.
Cause
The Sampling interval is either set to 0 or the default of 300. In either case the result can be that sampling is either too high or off with 0.
Solution
Sample interval: The time, in seconds, between measurements of bandwidth usage. The larger this value, the less often NetBackup checks to determine the bandwidth in use. If this value is zero, throttling is disabled.
Sample intervals are ideally between 5 sec to 60 sec, the ideal value for a sampling interval really depends on a customer environment. Values below 10 are initially suggested.
- Low sample intervals are set between 5 to 10 sec
- High sample intervals are set from 10 to 60 sec
For example:
If user has very strict considerations where cloud backups should at no instance of time exceed 20 MB/sec for example, or it will bring down the rest of their entire corporate network services, such users should go with low sampling interval – so that throttling gets more chance to control things.
For users that have high network bandwidths and have no problems with setting bandwidth restriction to high values like 100-200 MB/sec, they can go with high sample interval.
