Description

eDiscovery overall performance degrades slightly as the amount of documents increases.  The slowdown in performance is due to several factors; from third party software, network latency, Intruder Detection Software and Anti Virus scanning to name a few.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Anti-Virus

Verify the Anti-Virus scanning is disabled or follow the eDiscovery 'Virus Scanning Exclusions' using the following link: https://www.veritas.com/docs/000023411

Network

Set IP4 binding to the top of the list and disable TCP/IPv6 on all NIC cards.

Also place the correct adapter on the top of the list for multiple NIC environments. Control Panel | Network and Sharing Center | Change adapter settings | Highlight the NIC (but do not select) | Alt+N | Advanced | Advanced Settings | Adapters and Bindings

Set NIC flow control  (if available) to Generate & Respond, also  Disable TCP Chimney and TOE using the following link: https://www.veritas.com/docs/000094937

3rd Party Software

Ensure that IIS / WWW service is not installed on the eDiscovery appliance.
Run | Services.msc | World Wide Web Publishing Service is Disabled or not present

Active third party software and monitoring software contend for CPU and memory resources which could hinder performance.

Disable / Uninstall non-eDiscovery supplied software whenever possible.

Hardware

Run the Performance Counters during peak usage, on the Master, Slave and IGC nodes for analysis: (Use the two Performance Monitor Templates supplied in this article)

Reboot the eDiscovery appliance to place all idle application memory back into the Application Memory Pool resource.

If you are running a virtual environment, please consider the configuration using the following link: https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.100038279.html

Case Management

eDiscovery loads the index for every active case. As additional cases or documents are added, performance can decrease.

eDiscovery has a limit of 100 cases per appliance. If more cases are added past this set limit it could result in extreme performance degradation.

eDiscovery has a limit of 10 million unique items per appliance. If more than 10 million items are indexed it could result in extreme performance degradation. For more information reference the link below. https://www.veritas.com/docs/000017535

Archiving non-active cases reduces degradation.
