Description
1. Install DFM/OnCommand per NetApp’s documentation. Download the “NBUPlugin for Veritas NetBackup” from NetApp.
Once DFM/OnCommand has been installed successfully and the NBUplugin downloaded, configuring for NetBackup Replication Director may begin:
2. Use the NetApp Management Console to administer the DFM server.
To perform both SnapVault and SnapMirror operations between filers:
3. Click on Hosts , then Storage Systems, then Add which opens the “Welcome to the Add Storage System Wizard”. Click Next.
a. Enter the source or primary filer hostname. Click Next.
b. Enter the login credentials, click Next.
c. Ensure that licenses for SnapMirror and “SnapVault Data ONTAP Primary” have been added. If licenses are not present, add licenses. Additionally, if Point-in-Time Restores (rollback) will be performed, the SnapRestore license is required. Click Next.
d. Ensure that the SnapVault is enabled, allow access to all of the target filers. (Enter host=hostname, hostname,… or enter * or all to enable all access.)
e. Ensure that the SnapMirror is enabled, allow access to all source and target filers.
f. Ensure that NDMP is enabled. If you have trouble configuring NDMP login credentials, see the following article to make sure that the filer is configured to allow httpd-based administration: 000094702
g. Enter NDMP username.
h. Click Finish.
i. Repeat for the target filer hostname with the exception of licenses:
i. SnapMirror license is required for a filer that is to be used as a SnapMirror target.
ii. Three licenses: SnapVault Secondary, FlexCone, and SnapRestore, are required for a filer that is to be used as a SnapVault target.
Within the NetApp Management Console, the filers should now be seen within “Hosts Storage Systems”.
At this time, within the NetApp Management Console, under Data, then Groups, there should only be “Global” Data Group. There is not a NetBackup Data Group at this time. The NetBackup Data Group will be added during the NBUPlugin installation.
4. Install NBUPlugin on the DFM host. The installation is very straight forward.
a. From the download location of the NBUPlugin, run ./Install_32.sh
i. The default port of the NBUPlugin is 8085. If a different port is necessary, please be aware that reconfiguration is required on both DFM and all the NetBackup hosts which need to access the DFM.
After installing the NBUplugin, within the NetApp Management Console, under Data, then Groups, under the “Global” Data Group, there is now a NetBackup Data Group. Notice there are no members at this time.
5. Create Resource Pools in DFM and add aggregates to the Resource Pools.
Note: Resource Pools ONLY need to be created for replication targets. Do not create a resource pool to handle source or primary data. Primary data is handled automatically by NetBackup.
a. Within the NetApp Management Console, under Data then Resource Pools. There are several Default Resource Pools. Leave the Default Resource Pools and Click Add to open the “Add Resource Pool Wizard”. Click Next.
b. Add the name of the target resource pool. Click Next.
Note: There is no SnapVault or SnapMirror configuration specific to the resource pools.
c. Leave Group as Global. Choose Resource Type of either Hosts or Aggregrates. Choose appropriate physical resource and add it to the resource pool.
d. Resource pool label is optional (may be left blank).
e. Space Thresholds may be edited at this time or may be modified later.
f. Repeat for other replication targets.
Note: Previously selected physical resources will no longer appear within the list. A physical resource may only belong to one resource pool.
6. Add Resource Pools to the NetBackup Group
a. Within the NetApp Management Console, under Data then Groups, under the NetBackup Data Group. Click Edit.
i. Choose Members tab. Select category “Resource Pools”. From Available Resources, pick the Resource Pools created. Click OK.
b. Adding Resource Pools may also be added via Command Line:
i. “dfpm” and “dfm”(see dfpm –help and dfm –help)
