Veritas System Recovery service fails to start due to issue with SpnRegister.dll

Problem

The Veritas System Recovery (VSR) service may fail to start due to an issue with the SpnRegister.dll file. One of the errors below is seen in the Windows Application Event log.

Note: In some cases, the below error is 'cosmetic' in nature and does not cause any issues with backups/restores.

Error Message

High Priority Error: Error EC8F1775: An error occurred while starting Veritas System Recovery service.
Error EC8F1772: The following component is not installed correctly: Veritas.SpnRegistration.
Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'Error loading type library/DLL.' 0x80029C4A (Veritas System Recovery)

Cause

The SpnRegister.dll was not properly registered during the installation of VSR.

Solution

Workaround:

Manually re-register the file using the following steps:

1. Run command prompt as administrator
2. Issue the following command: regsvr32 "<drive letter>:\Program Files\Veritas\Veritas System Recovery\Agent\SpnRegister.dll"
3. Start the Veritas System Recovery service
