Enterprise Vault SharePoint archiving may be slower with SharePoint 2016

Problem

Changes in Microsoft SharePoint 2016 have affected performance of Enterprise Vault SharePoint archiving in the following areas:

• Shortcut processing
• Trawling sites for items that have not been archived

Archiving performance without shortcut processing is not affected.

Cause

The performance degradation depends on the hierarchy of sites, subsites, folders etc. in the SharePoint environment. Shortcut processing rate typically reduces by 40% in environments with deeply nested subsites or folder hierarchies.

The performance degradation is caused by SharePoint 2016 and is being investigated by Microsoft.

Solution

Increase the time window for shortcut processing to prevent backlogs from building up.
