NetBackup backup job writing to robotic library fails with error NBU status: 2009, EMM status: All compatible dive paths are down, but media is available

Problem

NetBackup backup job writing to robotic library fails reporting:

NBU status: 2009, EMM status: All compatible drive paths are down, but media is available
All compatible drive paths are down but media is available(2009)

However, the drive is up and running, and an Inventory Robot is successful.

Cause

Faulty tape drive 

Solution

The following steps can be performed :
1.  Update the tape drive firmware 
2.  Update the tape drive drivers to latest version.
3.  Run another backup. 

If the above steps fail to resolve the issue proceed with the following:

Errors mentioned in the Error section above are reported when there is an issue with tape drive write operation, to confirm the issue, please run a diagnostic test (write) on tape drive using the tape drive diagnostic utility provided by the hardware vendor. Once the issue is confirmed please contact hardware vendor to replace the drive.
