Problem

The Enterprise Vault Service Account (VSA) password needs to be changed.

Solution

  1. Use Cluster Administrator to take all EV resources offline.
  2. Use Cluster Administrator to freeze the EV Service Group temporarily.
  3. Change the VSA password in Active Directory .
  4. Use the Windows Services panel (services.msc) to change the VSA password on all EV services on every EV Node (both active and passive).
  5. Use cluster Administrator to unfreeze the EV Service Group.
  6. On the active nodes, bring online the Admin Service and Directory Service resources only.
  7. Change the VSA password in the Vault Admin Console (VAC). (Right-click Directory > Properties > Service Account tab). This will update the VSA's credentials on the DCOM components for the active nodes only.
  8. Fail over the cluster and repeat steps 6 and 7. This will update the VSA's credentials on the DCOM components for the formerly passive nodes. Now the credentials should have been updated on all nodes.
  9. Use Cluster Administrator to bring all EV Resources online.
  10. Check Event Viewer for errors and test that the system fails over successfully.

Note: The VSA password is not stored in VCS and will be requested when access to EV configuration information is required, such as when adding resources to VCS.
