How to create a custom retention period in Netbackup.

Solution

Any of the retention periods may be modified (except level 9) to allow for a custom retention period, however its recommended that one of the infinite levels be modified since there are several instances of them.

1. In the NetBackup Administration Console, expand NetBackup Management>Host Properties>Master Servers> Double-click master server > Retention Periods.
2. Select the retention period you want to change (Level 9 cannot be changed)
3. Type the new retention period in the Value box.
4. Select the units of measure (days, weeks, months, years, infinite, or expires immediately)
5. Click Apply or ok to save the change.
