Problem

For a Veritas cluster, there may be instances when resources abruptly fault and the engine log would report failures for them.

Error Message

The %VCS_HOME%/logs/engine_A.log, would have entries as below

VCS ERROR V-16-2-13067 <node_name>: Agent is calling clean for resource <resource_name> because the resource became OFFLINE unexpectedly, on its own.

VCS INFO V-16-1-10307 Resource <resource_name> (Owner: unknown, Group: <group_name>) is offline on <node_name> (Not initiated by VCS)

Cause

This message indicates that the resource being monitored by the cluster is offline.

This was not initiated by Veritas Cluster Server (VCS) and does not indicate a problem with VCS itself.

VCS monitors the status of the resource and triggers a fault if the items being monitored go offline unexpectedly. This is by design.

Solution

To determine the exact cause of the resource going offline/faulting, one may

1) Review the Windows Event Viewer

AND/OR

2) The logs for the specific clustered application (this is outside VCS scope)
