Solution

ISSUE:

GENERAL ERROR: When restoring to an NFS location, some files failed to restore due to "Permission denied" being returned by the OS.

ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS:

NetBackup was unable to restore 1 file because the permission of the file as it was backed up cannot be restored without the file existing first on the NFS mount. Here is an example of a permission set that could not be restored to an NFS location "-r-s-l--", the locking on the file cause "Permission Denied" errors during restores to an NFS location.

EVIDENCE:

/usr/openv/netbackup/logs/user_ops/root/log

16:47:58 (226.001) Could not create file /mnt/NFS/restore_job_ID_226/b2bi/proddb/orab2bi/10gR2/bin/oradism: Permission denied

18:02:53 (226.001) Could not create file /mnt/NFS/restore_job_ID_226/b2bi/_snapshot/b2bi_DAILY/proddb/orab2bi/10gR2/bin/oradism: Permission denied

SOLUTION/WORKAROUND:

Solution #1:

Create the file in the destination location before restoring and overwriting the file.

Solution #2:

Restoring to a Local Disk will avoid the NFS limitation.

Solution #3:

Change the Permission on the file prior to the backup, so it does not cause problems for restores in the future.
